FAQ

  • What is a cheesemonger?

A cheesemonger is a person who specializes in the selling of cheese — quite literally, a merchant of cheese. At a specialty cheese shop such as ours, our cheesemongers have deep expertise in the varieties of cheese, where and how they are made, their history and most importantly — what kind of cheeses you might like based on your preferences. Cheesemongers are storytellers and passionate about their craft, but we do not make cheese (cheesemaker or producer) or care for or age cheese (an affineur).

  • What types of cheese do you have?

Our goal is to provide a diverse range of cheeses to meet the needs of just about any palate. We work closely with cheesemakers, distributors, and partners to curate a special selection of small batch, artisanal, and farmstead cheeses, charcuterie and provisions. We often keep a rotating stock of 50+ varieties of cow, goat, sheep and plant-based cheeses.

  • Where do you get your cheese?

We pride ourselves on creating lasting relationships with artisan, small batch, and farmstead cheesemakers in North Carolina, in the U.S., and beyond. We also work directly with high-end distributors and affineurs. You will never find grocery store or big box cheese on our plates or in our case.

  • How can I buy your cheese?

We believe that buying cheese is a pretty special experience and one that requires conversations about what you like or don’t like, what dish you might be making that evening, or the group of people you are entertaining. We always prefer in-person interactions, but we make all of our cheeses, charcuterie and pantry items available on our online store. You can have it shipped or pick up locally at Glasshalfull in Carrboro. In March, we’ll be open three days a week at our brick and mortar shop inside Glasshalfull in downtown Carrboro.

  • Do you provide wholesale services?

Yes, we do! We have a few options for restaurants, breweries, coffee shops and similar. First, we act as a wholesale source to get you access to any specialty cheeses not currently provided by your regular food distributors. We also work directly with chefs and restaurants to consult on cheese course recommendations and menu item ingredients. For breweries, cideries and coffee shops, we often provide curated cheese pairings to accompany beverage flights and we also offer pre-packaged cheese boards for retail sale and on-site consumption. To learn more about our wholesale offering, email us at hello@cheeseshopnc.com.

  • Where are you located?

We are located inside the wine shop at Glasshalfull inside downtown Carrboro. As of March 9, we are open three days a week (Thurs - Sat) and offer online ordering and local pick up at Glasshalfull, Mon-Sat.

  • How can I reach you?

We prefer communicating via email at hello@cheeseshopnc.com. We will always do our best to respond to DMs and contact form submissions.

  • Do you ship or deliver?

We do not yet provide delivery, but it may be in our future.
